Bloggers doing their bit for charity

Last year I was most impressed to see that one of my new blogging friends, Gary from The Mexile, was doing a really noble thing for charity.

Not only was he climbing a mountain in Mexico and asking for sponsors; he was also blogging about it and monetising that blog through paid posts and advertising.  And the most noble thing about it?  He donated all of the money raised to charity.

So imagine how please I am to see that Gary is doing it again this year.  He is going to run the Mexico City Marathon 2009 and you can read all about it at his blog (click on the link above).

Once again, Gary is looking fro sponsors and you can donate no mtter how small your contribution is.  If you don't have cash to spare though, you can still contribute to the cause by clicking on either two of these links below and visiting his blog.  This will increase the page rank of the blog which will in turn increase the advertising revenue and the quality of the ads:

  1. Emm he writes a good blog which I subscribe too. I am sure some of your readers will enjoy a visit thanks to you.

  2. Nice Post . It is in detail information.

  3. Thanks for letting us know about his blog and his work for good causes. I'm off to visit now.

  4. @ Mike: Absolutely! There are some absolute gems out there in theblogging world - I have found the past 9 months so enriching since I discovered expat blogs.

@ Mountain Woman: Thanks for stopping by! I really like your blog. And thanks for visiting Gary too!

  5. i joined up to a cool charity, and should have my first job next week, will tell you more on the blog... enjoy S.A!

  6. A great thing to do. I am so much more inclined to support this than the celebrities who climbed Kilimanjaro, and then chartered a flight home!

When you have a moment Emm, could you let me know how to hide the full length of your blogroll they way you have? I have two (postcards and others) and they are becoming far longer than I would like.

  7. @ MT: Cool - I look forward to reading about it!

@ Sheila: Oh yes! I much prefer it when "real" people do this kind of thing.

If you are using blogger's blog roll widget (as opposed to the link list) then you can select how many you want to show. The option screen would look like this picture and where I have selected 5 blogs to show, you would select how ever many you want. I select mine too show in order of last updated.

  8. Thank you so much. I noticed that tick box, and assumed it showed that number and no more! Never make assumptions. :)

  9. @ Sheila: Hee hee! It's amazing what we don't see when it's staring us in the face!

  10. Hi, just a quick update regarding the world blog surf day, please check to see who will link to you and to whom you have to link at the end of your post. Looking forward to reading about your experience as an Expat ;-)

  11. Hi Emm! Thanks for following my blog! Now, «The Masterpiece» waits you and your comments at Blogtrotter. You shouldn’t miss it, believe me... ;).
Enjoy and have a great weekend!
